Several months ago I recieved a call from the mother of one of my seniors asking me to take a studio head shot. I was caught off gaurd. I had never anticipated or prepared for this. I couldn’t do it.
I had to refer the client elsewhere.. and that did NOT feel good.
I knew then that this was a branch of Photography I was going to have to walk out on(Branch- “walk out on a limb”- hope you’re following this complex metaphor).
Well.. Here it goes- Shelby Hurst Photography now has a functional Portrait Studio. Although, I will still remain primarily an outdoor and natural light photographer, I now have an indoor option! Thanks to a friend and fellow photographer, Pam McClure, I was able to shoot indoor studio photos today. I’m new, a little gun shy, and have a lot to learn but, I know it will be worth it. I want to be a photographer that can cover all of the bases for my clients and this is going to help me reach that goal.
I shot some Easter photos of a gorgeous baby girl with Pam’s help(Thank you, thank you, thank you) and they are now safe on my hard drive. After the shoot I decided I needed some more practice. The shoot went well but, I wanted to take a try without my safety net.
That’s when Karlee came over to check out my new studio/apartment. After this shoot I felt so much better about myself and my new set up. Thanks Kar!

Not only did Karlee model like a pro.. She also gave me some great color inspiration for the studio! The store front is orange(like the chair), the floor is black, and I’m really liking how they look with that blue-green.
Congrats on your new studio! I can’t wait to see it. I love the color scheme! Like one of my facebook friends (Melissa) said today,Why not go out on a limb… is that not where the fruit is?
